To whom it may concern,
I would like to lay a complaint about a recent item I saw on Pact1 TV's 6 o'clock news bulletin. The item, which screened on Saturday July 15, was about a house fire in south central LA. What disturbed me about this particular news story was that the pictures from the scene of the accident were extremely graphic. Some of the victims were bleeding and badly burnt. My young children, aged 4 and 7, were at home watching with me.
I firmly believe that this is a breach of broadcasting standards. You should warn viewers if the pictures in a news item are likely to be graphic and cause offense. Because there was no advance warning in this case, my children were exposed to these disturbing images.
Please make sure this situation is never repeated on your television station. If I ever notice it again, I will take action by protesting to the industry authority rather than going through your own in-house network committee.
