1. What change is announced in the advertisement?

2. What is NOT promoted in this advertisement?

To: All Employees
From : Gene Franks, Director of Marketing
Subject: New Promotional Strategy

On November 1st of this year, our company will no longer be publishing paper flyers to households. Recently, the rate of return for customers who use coupons from the flyers has dropped dramatically. Ten years ago, our grocery store head office recorded 250 customers per week who used the coupons at one of our grocery stores in the city. Over the past few years, however, this number has decreased to only 25 customers weekly.

Through surveys, the marketing department has determined that most people would prefer to take advantage of discounts offered over the Internet. Customers said that they preferred to use the Internet rather than flyers, not because of cost savings, but because they found the website more convenient. Therefore, the marketing department has decided to no longer issue flyers.

Due to the fact that we have made this change to our promotional strategy, it is necessary to look at other ways to increase revenues. In order to accomplish this goal, we have hired new managers for our long- range marketing plans. They are experienced managers who have worked in the industry for many years and are familiar with the online grocery business. We intend to develop a company email list to contact our customers and make them aware of promotional deals at our stores.

Dear Ms. Sanchez,

I’m sorry to inform you that we will be unable to visit your London production facilities in June as previously scheduled. Complications in the construction of our new office buildings have made it difficult for me to leave New York at this time.

We will be attending the trade shows in both Chicago and Los Angeles in August and October respectively. Perhaps we can arrange to meet at either one of these conferences. If not, I will definitely contact you to reschedule later in the year.

Regards,

Paul Kay, Eastern Regional Director
