     Yesterday was Earth Day and I learned how to save the earth at school. I never knew that plastic didn't decay for so many years. I use PET bottles and paper cups every day, and now I realize I have been making so much waste every day. I also learned how to recycle, so I made this pretty postcard with a tissue box to write this message to you.

     Christmas is coming soon, and I can't wait to visit you. See you soon.

There are many ways to reduce, reuse and recycle to save our earth!

1. Bring your own bags instead of using plastic shopping bags when shopping at the supermarket.

2. Use rechargeable batteries.

3. Use your own reusable water bottle at school instead of using plastic PET bottles.

4. Turn the faucet off to not let the water run when you are brushing your teeth or rubbing your hands with soap.

5. Turn off the lights and pull out plugs when you are not using any electricity.

6. Recycle every day. Sort your paper, plastic, and glass waste.

7. Walk or ride a bike to reduce greenhouse gases. Walking or riding a bike can be good exercise, too.

8. Use a handkerchief or washable towels instead of paper towels or napkins.

9. Keep the temperature moderate. Using the air conditioner or heater too much requires a lot of energy.

10. Use your own mug or cup instead of paper cups.

11. Exchange unwanted items with your friends or sell them at a garage sale. 

12. Use both sides of a sheet of paper. Many people use only one side of a sheet of paper and throw it away. You don't need new sheets of paper just to make some notes.

     Jeremy's mom looked in the trash can. She saw all kinds of garbage in the can.

    "Well, somebody didn't recycle," Jeremy's mom said.

    "Jeremy, can you come down to the kitchen, please?" Jeremy's mom called . Jeremy.

    "What's up?" Jeremy asked.

    'Why don't you look in the trash can and tell me if you notice anything," said his mom.

     Jeremy looked in the trash can and saw pieces of crumpled paper, a plastic PET soda bottle, some empty bags of potato chips, and wet tissues.

     "I told you to sort the trash by plastic, paper and glass. The recycling boxes are right next to the trash can," his mom added.

     "I'm sorry, Mom. I was busy playing with Sean at the playground this afternoon. I forgot and threw everything into the trash can," Jeremy replied.

    "Recycling is very important. It is one way to save the earth. You don't want to live in a polluted environment for the rest of your life. It will harm your health," his mom said.

    "OK, I will try to be more careful from now on," said Jeremy, and they started sorting the recyclable trash together.

    "Mom, what is this worth?" Mary raised her arm so her mom could see the one-dollar bill in her hand.

    "That's a one-dollar bill. I don't think I have taught you how to count money, have I?" asked Mary's mom.

    "No, you haven't. Can you teach me how to count money today?" asked Mary.

    "Sure. Do you see the numbers on these paper bills? If it says 1, it is one dollar. If it says 10, it is ten dollars," explained Mary's mom.

    "OK. What about coins?" asked Mary, taking out all different sizes of coins from her pocket.

    "Coins can be 1 cent, 5 cents, 10 cents or 25 cents. They have different names, too. A penny is 1 cent, a nickel is 5 cents, a dime is 10 cents and a quarter is 25 cents. Do you understand?" asked Mary's mom.

     "The names for the coins sound new to me," said Mary.

    "Why don't we do some practice? If I have two quarters, how much do I have?" asked Mary's mom.

    "A quarter is 25 cents. So 25 cents plus 25 cents is 50 cents," said Mary.

    "Very good. Now imagine I go to a supermarket and buy two bags of apples. One bag of apples costs 1 dollar and 50 cents. I have 10 dollars in my pocket. How much should I get for change?" asked Mary's mom.

    Mary wrote down the number $10 and $1.50. Then she multiplied $1.50 by 2. Then she subtracted her answer from $10.

    "Seven dollars!" exclaimed Mary.

    "You got it. Counting money is not that hard, is it?" said her mom.

    "No. Not at all!" replied Mary.

    Writing an article for your school newspaper may seem difficult and boring, but it will give you an opportunity to learn about a variety of issues, meet and interview people from different backgrounds, and improve your writing skills. If you are interested but do not know where to begin, start by joining a journalism class or newspaper club. If your school does not have one, talk to your teacher for help starting one.

    Start searching for new events or issues that have been brought up in school. For example, if the election for class president is coming up, interview the candidates and write about them. Even though you can write about anything for your school newspaper, you need to be responsible about what you write. You can be creative with your writing, but do not write about things that are too personal or mean to others. You must deliver facts and not rumors.

    Try to stay focused on your topic so that your readers will understand your main point. Even if you are out of ideas and have a deadline, do not copy others' ideas. If you want to use an idea from someone else, you must refer to it. To make your article easier and more fun to understand, try to find a relevant picture or drawing to make your work more creative and visual.

    How much sleep do you get every night? How much sleep do you think children need for their brains to function properly? Children who do not get enough sleep cannot control their emotions or focus well at school. If you get used to staying up late at night, you will have difficulty getting up early in the morning and you will often get tired in the middle of the day.     Badminton is a type of sport that you can play with racquets and a special high-drag projectile called a shuttlecock. It can be played by two or four players. Badminton is usually played on a rectangular court which is divided by a net in the middle. In order to get a point, you have to hit the shuttlecock with a racquet to pass it over the net. Once the shuttlecock lands on the opponent's court, you will get a point. There might be some tricky plays when it is hard to decide which player deserves the point. There is an umpire who watches the game carefully and makes these decisions. Although it is known as an indoor sport, it is possible to play it outdoors. It has become a popular sport for many people because it does not require a lot of equipment and can be played anywhere. It is excellent for everyone because it is easy to learn and builds strength and speed.
